Claudia Efemini is a current History and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh (2021-2025). International Women’s Day also gives us an opportunity to recognise the inner and outer work we all need to do to achieve gender equality for all women, regardless of where they come from. At McGill, I am looking forward to taking a variety of courses in history and political science exploring a range of areas such as African history, international relations, and indigeneity. The British attempt to erase the fact that terrible murders and other unpleasant acts of violence are happening in Asaba and probably other parts of Nigeria, as well as the part they played in creating an environment of fear and cruelty there.I am thrilled to announce the book cover for my debut novel ‘A Letter Away From Asaba’ designed by Quinthia Nsema. Put simply, it all started as an extended essay that I wrote in my last year of the International Baccalaureate diploma programme that I later decided to translate into a fictional narrative during my first year of university.

Claudia Efemini is an author and current History and Politics student at the University of Edinburgh. This book demonstrates the evils of tribalism, not just friendly rivalry, and how detrimental it has been to the growth of Nigeria. This work has left me inspired and hopeful that young voices will not allow history to remain neglected under the chronicles of British colonisation. This is where Onome’s logical and straightforward thinking fails her, It was extremely upsetting to read this the moment (I am still upset even though she does make amends and admit her lack of compassion for Chioma as a witness to the violence and a close friend).
