About this deal

Oh... my.... gosh.... I could not put this book down. This book was everything I didn't realise I needed in my life. I thought the romance scenes would be in books 3 and 4 since the author mentioned that the romance intensifies as the books come out. But, HOLY COW. The author wrote some scenes that... holy water 😮‍💨. The pool scene 🔥. And the one in the room with the TV?!?! 😳. My fav.

Secondly! Wow. This one had me non stop reading all day—there is so very much pining and if you know me you know I’m a hoe for pining. BUT THE RELATIONSHIP PROGRESS!? Goodness it’s there. We even get a spicy scene 🥵 and some very saucy kisses. I’m just sayin—thank goodness they’re getting there ya know? My heart couldn’t take it 😂 Aaron Calem has been trying to resist the blood lust raging through his new body, but the unfamiliar voice in his head won’t let him pass up an easy meal. When he’s left with a girl barely clinging to life,he must choose between loyalty to his brothers or his own morality.Chelsea could have been cut from this book entirely and nothing would change. But we needed a petty sorority girl for our "not like other girls girl" to compare to and have a conflict with. I damn nearly saw my brain with how hard I rolled my eyes every time she was in a scene. Something that bugged me big time that I noticed time and time again throughout the book was that whenever the Calem brothers ever said or did anything, they were always smiling. Smiling coyly, smiling playfully, a beaming smile, a wide smile, a warm smile ... smile smile smile. We get it, they're friendly and sweet frat boys in which they exist as an oxymoron. Aaron also has the energy of a middle schooler who discovered coffee for the first time, which easily teeters off into the realm of annoying and not as endearing as the author wants it to be. Case in point: Aaron turning into a child in the grocery store and literally...yeeting? Kimberly's debit card further into the store. But because Aaron is a cute boy with golden retriever energy it means he's easily forgiven <3 Again like the first book this book comes across as very YA, the spice is just kissing. As a college/fraternity setting I was hoping for a little bit more than that. Family isn’t always about sharing the same last name; it’s about sharing a genuine connection and a piece of your heart.” The found family in this book hit so hard with the way the younger guards of the legion interreacted and defended the Calem’s and Kim, I adored the way the relationship between the brothers was so lucrative and not forced and actually allowed me to envision the way I imagined actual siblings to behave with each other, I also like that there were visible problems between the way Luke and Zach [despite being twins] chose to raise their brothers I feel like the way in which they both encourage their younger brothers to love without bounds and dislike restricting them of their own wishes and futures shows they where very good role models in a very uncertain time within the lives of Aaron and Presley.

There is a topless car wash, and some time spent in the movie theater (all of them got various summer jobs and it is definitely so cute). This book just gave me everything I had asked for. The romance, on point. The mystery, on point. The plot, on point. The humor, on point. The Calem brothers, ON POINT 🔥. I believe the characters had some amazing development, especially when it came to a certain devastatingly handsome, Dark Art. I believe he grew the most throughout the story. I loved Wren as our FMC. The strength and power she possesses makes her such a threat and she wears that with pride. I respect her greatly for that, knowing how much she had been through. You could really feel how each character felt while only reading through 1 point of view. I found that fascinating! We meet some really incredible new characters in this book (you can just be prepared to love Skylar the most), and there is constant action in this—I never felt like a scene was there for pure fluff it was really all impactful for the plot.Off topic, but if vampires can only be turned through The Family's blood, then how was William and the rest of his murderous anti-vampire squad turned? Their goal is to rid the planet of the evil of The Family but isn't the call coming from inside the house? It's also very possible in their monologuing toward the end I missed some explanation as I sped-read through it in the middle of Texas Roadhouse while waiting to be seated so I could mark this book as finished. Truthfully, Zach and Luke would've been more interesting if they had done some culty shit like it's hinted at, except the Calem brothers are all uwu boys who survive off their undefying brotherly love for one another so they can't outright do anything bad because it would take away from their golden retriever vibes. This just came to mind that I'm still confused about, but William mentioned that it was never Kimberly he was after, but rather Aaron and his brothers. I can accept this because as far as interesting main characters go, there isn't anything about Kimberly that would make William go feral over ala Bella Swan and James. But if that's true, then why would he bite her after the frat party without taking any blood, then proceed to steal her purse? I feel like that Charlie Day meme from It's Always Sunny as I try to make sense of these plot points that just make no sense. Friends are the heartbeat of our chosen family, intertwining lives with a connection as strong as blood.” It had been 8 months since I read the first book and this book doesn’t really recap on the smaller details so I highly recommend doing a re-read or skim over the first book again to refresh yourself with all the characters and smaller plot points, so you aren’t lost like I was.

Trauma and addiction are also show really interestingly enough, the way in which this world is being written gave me the impression its very loosely inspired by Twilight, TVD and Originals the way certain characters interact especially new Antagonists like Akira pull together really cool references if you have watched these shows and if you haven’t, I Highly recommend them if you loved this book series as much as I do. I do feel like this storyline is taking interesting leaps when it comes to how things are going to now evolve given the way in which the ending left us. I like seeing development grow in each character and I have a feeling the next book is definitely going to change a lot about Kim and Aaron in specific I just have this feeling they are going to test the strength of their bonds. However I am in distraught over the way this book has ended and I need that third book like I need air. Now that Kimberly’s life is undeniably intertwined with Aaron’s, the future remains unclear. And with the pressures of college life and The Legion hovering over the brothers’ every move, she wonders if she’s bitten off more than she can chew. She wants to remain a part of Aaron’s life, but at what cost? This comment contains spoilers, so please don't read if you don't like spoilers! This is my personal rating for "The Blood That Burns Us"! Family is a mosaic of relationships, built on love, shared experiences, and the choice to stand by each other.”Both of the main characters are strong willed, defiant, and unyielding given their past experiences and traumas. The relationship that develops is a slow burn, full all of the enticing tension, genuine disdain, flirtatious teasing you could want…. And gods, it was absolutely delicious 🫦 I am HEAVILY invested in Aaron and Kimberly. There is SO MUCH more than just them. But truthfully I am here FOR THEM. I do like everything else about the story!! But I love them the most. They are SWEET. Aaron is trying to hard to make the right choices to keep Kimberly safe, but the connection is so strong and that makes it so much harder. The way they talk about each other makes my heart MELT. This book dives a little deeper into their relationship and I loved every single second of it. The long awaited sequel to S.L Cokeley’s This Blood that Binds Us is here! A cute college town romance with a badass FMC and a Golden retriever of a vampire MMC? Also found family vibes with the MMC’s protective brothers? Say less!
